The right tool.
At the right step.
A template organizes your thinking. A calculator works with numbers. Neither replaces evidence or a conversation with the people doing the work.
How the tools connect
DMAIC means Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. Follow the sequence for an unfamiliar problem; revisit earlier steps when evidence changes.

Example: late orders in a small factory
Define “on time” with the customer. Map the order-to-dispatch process. Measure queues by stage and shift. Use Pareto to choose the largest delay category; test the explanation with observations. Pilot a replenishment or scheduling change, then monitor delivery and quality together. A faster process that creates more defects is not an improvement.
